Early Childhood Writing & Handwriting Apps

ABC Phonics Animals Writing

Preschoolers can practice their handwriting by spelling & tracing animal names with connecting the dots. Letter stroke guidance animations included. (iPad – free/$2.99)

iWriteWords

A nifty app that teaches kids how to write the capital & lowercase letters of the alphabet, numbers up to 20, & simple words. Help Mr. Crab collect the numbered balls by dragging him with their finger & drawing the letter/numeral at the same time. Since the process of teaching kids to write uses a follow-the-numbered-dots approach, it helps if kids already know how to count & read numbers up to 10 in order to play this game. (free/$2.99)

LetterSchool

A letter-writing app with cool animations, & a 3-step method to learning to write letters – tap, trace, & write. There is even some phonics & counting added to the mix. There is a font option that includes Handwriting Without Tears font!! I have been using this app with several of my students & they all really enjoy it. The app cost $2.99, but there is a free version, which only offers a few letters (A,B,C,D,E). ($0.99)
